Biography

My roots are from the Southern United States, primarily in Louisiana, and I have relatives all over the deep south. My family moved around a bit as I grew up and I wound up graduating from high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Interestingly, I was born in Roswell, New Mexico…

I came to Colorado in 1988 to attend college at the University of Colorado and have been here happily ever since… What a beautiful state to call home! Moreover, I have dual status in Colorado as I graduated from CU-Boulder with a Bachelors in Psychology in 94′ and from CSU-Ft. Collins with a Masters in Social Work in 00′.

My professional background started in traditional western training as I worked primarily in mental health and the juvenile correctional system and eventually progressed to hospital social work. During these experiences, I was deeply engrossed in my own personal healing regimen, which included psychotherapy, shamanic journey work, shamanic medicine ceremony, sweat lodge, channeling/mediums, yoga, reiki, qi gong, martial arts, acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, rolfing (structural integration), astrology, philosophy (both western and eastern), and meditation – just to name a few…

As I began to meld my personal Journey with my work experiences, I began to ask questions… What if there are other methods of treating folks besides traditional counseling and psychotropic medications in traditional settings? This contemplation lead me to a path that would eventually culminate into Dimensional Wisdom. I will delve more into the delicious tidbits of my Journey in my upcoming book, Akinje: Tales of an African American Shaman.
